Graphic Design
“It’s through mistakes that you actually can grow. You have to get bad in order to get good.”
Designing projects to make an impact and growing to learn from my mistakes. My print/graphic design project range from my classes in UX (user experience), art, print, and graphic design classes to a student organization.
UX (User Experience)
Devices and Software:
Microsoft Teams
Marvel
Adobe Photoshop
Invision
Problem: In my UX class, as a class, we had to help a stay home mom with her 3 autistic kids to stay engaged with the remote school via Zoom during the pandemic. We took some recorded notes to understand the user pain points as to why the kids are not engaged with the remote learning material.
(Click on the image to see my recorded notes for the user’s problem.)
Designing: From the notes we recorded, we had to come up with an implementable solution for the mom's family. We came up with various different solutions for our own educational app and had to think like a “kid” to understand each interaction with the various games. We had to think as a whole how the game was going to be engaging with each kid's autism spectrum and what kind of reward would receive for completing the set educational game. We also created a mind map to think with each different concept to create a central idea for reaching a potential solution.
(Click on the image with the question mark to see the group notes on how we need to design educational games and click on the image with the hand on the diagram to view the mind map.)
Building a first prototype: Created three various different games including solving math equations to paint an image to spell out what the image is displaying. Also, showing how the parent can track how well their student is progressing with each game. The prototype was hand-drawn on prototype iPhone screens and used in Marvel to show the first rendition of our educational app.

Testing prototype: We test out our rough prototype for the class to see what works well and what we could improve upon in our final prototype. We gather feedback on what kind of designs we could implement in our final prototype app for our own individual app.
Implementation: With the feedback from classmates, I had to design my own educational games for the app. My final prototype was created using Adobe Photoshop for the graphics and using Invision for all my screens.
On the home page, I have an avatar for the kid along with different menu selections for games, tasks, and a reward page.
There are three different games based on reaction/motor skills (Apple catching game), math (number coloring game), and audio/speaking (repeat and speak). Each of these different games will keep the kid engaged and motivated to learn the different educational games attached with rewards for the customizing avatars. As an extra bonus, the parent can see how well their kid is doing and can even change the difficulty if needed after answering a series of questions.

Project: Educational Gaming App
Project: Cincinnati Graphic Design App
Another UX project where I had to develop an app for someone that is currently facing a problem at their workplace. I reached out to a Graphic Designer who works with the Cincinnati Bengals since she use to go to Bowling Green State University and studied Visual Communication Technology. She was facing a major problem since she is the only Graphic Designer and had to manage the workplace/projects by herself. She felt overwhelmed at times trying to finish set projects on a tight deadline.
As a result, I developed an app with her pain points to develop an app where she could manage all her assets in one app and figure out which graphic design projects were due with a calendar within the app. With the app, she can manage what assets are on the go with what to download to the app and upload to her computer. It can even create folders and filters to organize what assets such as what kind of content (print, video, photo, social media, web, etc.), and organized by players and coaches. There is even a calendar feature to see how urgent a project is and what kind of department needs a certain project.
Flyer
Devices and Software:
Adobe Illustrator
Google Docs
RallyCap Sports Flyer to promote the upcoming spring sporting event schedule for parents and volunteers to see when we mail them out. Both new and existing families can see what kinds of sports are coming and what RallyCap Sports is all about. In addition, Volunteers and families can sign up with the link for one or all the events.
Poster and Postcard
Devices and Software:
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe InDesign
Front
Back
The poster in my print class was for a local humane society to an upcoming event called the Adopt-a-Thon along with a local Honda dealership. This is to raise awareness for the event and have families adopt new pets for their homes. I choose the color red to symbolize with warmth and passion that people have for pets. In addition, the humane society takes care of the pets before they have a new home.
A postcard in my print class was to add a further promotion for the upcoming Adopt-a-Thon event for mailing purposes for the local humane society. I had to follow a print layout with bleeds and crop marks to leave room for the stamp and mailing address along with the various text and images.
Calendars/Advertisments
Devices and Software:
Adobe InDesign
Adobe Photoshop
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Acrobat
My art project was to tell distinguished characteristics of a visual narrative with a collection. The project for my dog calendar fits the visual narrative through my collection of photos of various dogs for the central theme. The main story I want to portray is telling why dogs are man’s best friend and why people might consider adopting them into their own families from an adoption shelter and/or family. The photos range from top popular dog breeds adopted from animal shelters to the hilarious collection of holiday calendars and finally adorable puppies.
Another art project was where I had to tell a story through a collage. I did my project on the organization Impact with Hope to show off the various work they do through collages. The logo was the center point and the images made a tile of squares around the logo. Each photos shows they do missionary trips and help aid in disaster relief in the local community and around the world to making a difference in peoples lives.
